“This portrait depicts our dear friend Fran around the time of her marriage to Gavin; a small attempt to hold on to a little bit of her extraordinary beauty. Of course such a depiction fails miserably. It can’t show her flamboyant panache that drew us to her, but that we could never quite keep up with. It can’t show her quite acts of kindness when she noticed you were sad, nor her loyal delight in the people she loved. It is just a small gesture to remember her by.”

Des Lawrence is a painter who lives in London. The principal theme of his work is derived from current newspaper obituaries. The artworks are tributes and memorials. Recent shows include Drawing Biennial 2017 at The Drawing Room, and the forthcoming group show Really? at Wilding Cran Gallery, LA.
