Through variously sourced images and objects, Paul Johnson creates collages and sculptures that stimulate imaginary associations in the viewer to decode. Johnson’s work is anchored by an enquiry into the way objects and images can transition historically, mentally and physically when filtered through the hands of the artist.
For the past 10 years his practice has expanded from the making of small labour intensive paper collages, to large-scale sculptural installations. His Most recent exhibition at Camden Arts Centre involved dismantling his entire studio and reconstructing fragments to re examine this space as a sculptural object and visionary environment.
